Having today received my Glamorgan FHS journal, I saw mention of your St Bride's site and have just visited it.  I'm delighted to see yet another local village finding a place on the web - and congratulations on its design too.  I have added it to the "Local Links" list on my Pentyrch site.  I've also taken the opportunity to make a direct link to your MI index from the "Monumental Inscriptions On Line" section of my Old Roots Genealogy site.  David Webb, South Wales

My Grandmother Mary Harding nee Jones was born in the "New House" St Brides Super Ely on 31st May 1870 the daughter of William Jones a farm worker & Catherine Jones (née) Jones.  They had two younger sons John and Thomas.  William Jones was born in Llandewi Brefi Mid Wales, and Catherine was born in Peterstone super Ely.  They went on to farm at Lower Holton Farm Merthyr Dovan near Barry until the farm was finally absorbed in to the docks.  My cousin has told me that my grandmother used to travel back to Wales from London to see the Bassett family but what relation they were I do not know.  Although I have visited St Brides briefly I did not see the "New House".  In the 1871 census William aged 38 was farming 40 acres.  Mary's brothers were John Jones aged 8 and Thomas Jones aged 7 at the 1881 census also born in St Brides.  Mary and John were babtised on 22nd Dec 1872 and Thomas on 12th April 1874 (extracted from Parish Register St Brides).

Best regards, David

I spent some time visiting your new web site.  Congratulations on a wonderful job!  Very informative and interesting. My great-grandparents are both buried in the churchyard, I believe at St. Bridgets.  They are Stephen Collier and his wife Elizabeth.  If anyone could provide transcripts of the MI and any other Colliers I would be most grateful.  Thanks, John Hymers, Canada

Seeking William Rees, born c.1780, lived most of his life in Penmark, gave his place of birth simply as 'St Bride's'.  Had assumed St Brides Major but suddenly realise this is closer.  Male family names tend to be William, John and David - not a great help, I know.

Visited your excellent site last night - very good - some nice photos and interesting names that the GFHS has not published - I'll make sure that the relevant person knows.  Well done.  I'll link it to our site.  Best wishes, Alun -- Glamorgan Family History Society Website:  http://www.glamfhs.org/

Congratulations on a really enjoyable new web site, easy to navigate, and pleasant to view.  I enjoyed my stroll through your village, despite it being long past my bedtime, and only wish some kind soul would do the same for St Lythans! Elinor Wood, Cardiff

I had a look at this site this evening.  It's very good.  I liked the simple and easy to use design.

Wow! It's beautiful, it's functional, it's fascinating!  Now you've got me inspired to do the same thing for my part of Wales. :)  I do this for a living, so I know how much work you've put into that site.  I'm impressed.  I've bookmarked it so I can go back at look at everything when I have time.  I hope when I get around to doing my own site, you'll find it flattering if I lift some of your connections and imitate your organization. :)  Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

Very many thanks for the email - I'd be obliged if you would permit me to add a link from the GENUKI St. Brides super Ely webpage?  Should you wish to place a link to GENUKI then please feel free, or if you just wish to link to the Population Statistics then you are equally as welcome to do that.  I've had a very quick look at your pages and they look totally fantastic.  Best Wishes Phil Mustoe

I have only one name with a connection of any kind with St Brides s Ely, and that is a Catherine Thomas who I found was supposed to have been born there in 1796. Someone has sent me a baptism entry for her, together with the parents' names.  The parents were Thomas and Catherine Thomas. Catherine was baptised 18th January 1796.  Thomas and Catherine seem to have married elsewhere, however, and have no other births recorded there either, so it looks as if they might just have been passing through.
