From The Knoxville Daily Journal, Sunday, July 7, 1895 William C. Tunnel ... was killed on the Knoxville and Ohio branch of the Southern railway, near the Brookside Cotton Mills, about 7:30 o'clock last night, by passenger train No. 4, from Harriman. The fatally injured man, who proved to be Mr. Tunnell, was picked up by Rev. J Francis Davies, the new pastor of the First Congregational church who was on his way here from Lima, Ohio, to accept his charge and carried into the baggage car, Tunnell bleeding profusely from a wound behind his right ear. Dr. L Jones Price and a number of other prominent Welshmen were at the Southern depot to welcome Rev. Davies. They misunderstood the name of the injured man thinking it to be the new preacher and the doctor rushed to the baggage car where they found the preacher caring for Tunnell.
